SILVER
Since prehistoric times, jewelry and luxury items have appeared in Vietnamese culture. Archaeological sites have been found to prove that Vietnamese people have used silver since ancient times.
During feudal dynasties, silver was a precious metal second only to gold. In Vietnamese folklore, the phrase “gold and silver” always goes together.
Silver was not only used to make jewelry and luxury items for royalty and nobility, but was also used to purchase weapons, military provisions and was a unit of calculation for war expenses as well as domestic currency transactions.
Royalty, nobility and officials often had the custom of burying silver with their deceased relatives, similar to the burial of gold, jade and other treasures.
Today, with the development of high technology and the discovery of many silver mines, the difference in value between gold and silver has become very large compared to the feudal period.
