National Founding General Nguyen Van Thanh (1758-1817)
Nguyễn Văn Thành, a talented general, politician, and jurist, fought alongside his father, Lord Nguyễn Văn Hiền, in the late 18th century. He raised an army to support Nguyễn Phúc Ánh against the Tây Sơn forces, contributing to bringing Nguyễn Phúc Ánh to the throne as the first emperor of the Nguyễn Dynasty (Emperor Gia Long) in the early 19th century.
After the war, he helped stabilize Trần Bắc Hà (present-day Northern Vietnam) during the chaotic post-war period, overcoming societal complexities, factions, separatists, and bandits.
His exploits earned him titles like Imperial Commissioner, The maréchal of the front army, Western Pacifying General, Viceroy of Bac Thanh, Chief compiler, The maréchal of the centre army, Meritorious Statesman of the Restoration, and Duke.
