Tay ethnic group

The Tay are one of the 54 officially recognized ethnic groups in Vietnam, with a population of 1,845,492 according to the 2019 general population census, making them the second-largest ethnic group in the country. Their language, Tay, belongs to the Thai branch of the Kra-Dai (Thai-Kadai) language family. The Tay primarily reside in the midland and mountainous provinces of northern Vietnam, including Cao Bang, Lang Son, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, and Bac Kan.
